New Year cottage holidays
New Year is at a critical time of year when the weather in Britain is at its bleakest, we have just recovered from the celebrations and spending of Christmas and look forward to the New Year with hope of better things. It is also a peak time for holiday cottage lettings – everyone wants to start the new year doing what they enjoy most, which for many if being on holiday and having a great time. They do say that ‘start the year as you mean to go on’, so throw all caution to the wind, find a holiday cottage to rent with your partner, or better still, with a group of friends.
There are lots of large holiday cottages that are perefect for New Year celebrations. It’s exciting to go somewhere new to party the night away on the 31st of December. Big cottages and self-catering houses have spacious function rooms so that there is plenty of space to dance and enjoy the company of friends. Have a firework party outside on the patio and see the New Year in with champagne, bubbles and bangs.
It is so good to wake up in a big comfortable bed with different views out of the window, especially if they are of beautiful British countryside. New Year fireworks are a common occurrence. London has magnificent fireworks over the Thames except that starting in 2014/2015 the numbers will be restricted and entry will be ticket only because of the ever increasing crowds each year. Fireworks always look fantastic over water when the reflections add to the display. Think of cities close to rivers and large bodies of water such as Portsmouth, Newcastle, Glasgow. Rent a cottage on the outskirts of a city or large town and travel in for the celebrations.
Scotland excels in its New Year revelries, people gather in town centres and still go from door to door with a bottle of whisky or their favourite tipple. The bonhomie is irresistible. It would be nice to experience New Year in Scotland at least once – perhaps an item for the bucket list. Stonehaven just south of Aberdeen hosts a fire whirling march through the streets ending in balls of fire being thrown in the waves. Aberdeenshire is highly recommended for a new year break, the city has numerous good restaurants and bars plus there is a leisure village in the beach with cinema, ice skating and more.
Wherever you stay over New Year, bear in mind that at midnight it will be kisses all round, so do make sure that you’re with people that you don’t mind kissing and hugging.
